I love to explore new mediums, and when I took a sculpture class at the U of A, i knew this was definately something I would enjoy doing. I started playing with different materials and decided that i wanted to combine this with my painting as well. So what you will see below is the result of this.
In making my artwork, I go through a series of phases from start to finish. First, I cut Styrofoam sheets to form the size and general shape of the art piece. Next, I use a light weight plaster mix to start to enclose the Styrofoam in a thin coating on all sides. I then start to build up the sculptural forms and add texture to the piece to create the desired look. The art piece then takes several days to dry.
After the art piece has completely dried, I then start to lay down a base coat, completely covering the piece with the basic colors I plan to use. After the base coat has dried I start to build up layers of paint, creating blends of colors, bringing the piece to its final look. I then let the paint dry completely over night.
